Large image Perth & Freemantle/ PDF

Larger image Downtown Perth and Freemantle
Downtown Perth, seen by the SPOT satellite with the Swan River. In fact the river forms in this section a swan with the Heirisson Island at its breast. Two data set from 1986 and from 2004 have been combined. In a span of only 18 years the dynamic development of Perth is clearly visible also from space. In the image new buildings, reconstructions or enlargements of smaller houses are presented in red, while light blue and white shows constructions or places older than 18years.

Freemantle 1986 and 2004 seen from space. is found here. Two images from SPOT satellite combined into one show in red new buildings or enhanced reconstructions. Very clear are the enlarged port facilities. These changes have also changed the ocean current: red shows accumulation and light blue erosion along the beach. In the city many reconstructions can be discovered such as new large construction in the image centre or entire quarters as visible in the lower right corner.

Technical information
SPOT images acquired on 4 November 2004 and on 11 April 1986.

Thanks to the ESA program EDUSPACE with its Satellite Eye educational project, SPOT IMAGE through the ESA third party mission makes this data available to the Galathea Expedition.
