The Island of Tasmania seen from ENVISAT.
It is an early summer image and one of the seldom cloud free
views of Tasmania. The image provides a perfect overview of the
vegetation. Due to its humid climate in the mid-southern
latitudes the island appears in many shades of green. The yellow
brown cover show the harvested fields (barley and wheat) and
perhaps dry grassland in the northern and east central part of
the island, while the light green represents the grass and
pasture land. Dark brown-green stands for shrub and dark green
for forest, whereas Eucalypus appears in a lighter brownish
green tone. The western part includes mainly wet forest and
shrub in dark green and the button grass moor lands in dark
brownish green.
